The Fibrelight Cradle is a lightweight and compact device primarily designed for use on rescue craft, fast rescue craft, rigid inflatables, small commercial vessels, small passenger vessels, tugs, pilot boats and ships’ lifeboats.

The design of the Fibrelight Cradle combines the innovative use of modern materials with advanced fabric techniques to produce a versatile and lightweight overboard recovery cradle. There are no metal parts to corrode or damage the rescue craft and the materials used are impervious to salt water. Manufactured from PU coated polyester webbing and reinforced with carbon fibre rods, the Fibrelight Cradle is tough, durable, lightweight and easy to handle; the standard system 1.3m wide by 3m long and weighs approximately 5kg. Any width or length can be produced based on a nominal 300mm horizontal spacing.

The Fibrelight Cradle has many different applications however its primary function is that of a system to recover casualties from the water in the medically preferred horizontal position. To rescue a casualty in this way the cradle is secured at the inboard end and the outboard end is held outwards by hand, boat hook or bridle depending on the size of the rescue craft. The casualty is then guided on to the cradle and the outboard end is hauled up, bringing them safely on board. A single crewmember aided by the mechanical advantage provided by the cradle can in this way recover a heavy casualty. Once recovered the casualty can be retained in the cradle as a stretcher. On vessels with a higher freeboard a crewmember can climb down the cradle to the water level in order to secure an unconscious or hypothermic casualty.

In addition to this application the Fibrelight Cradle can be used as a scramble net or boarding ladder to climb on board or disembark safely in an emergency, and can assist with casualty recovery from trenches, ditches and other similar locations.
